'Sweet game'
The prosecutor, handling the case, outlined Ruben's offending to the court.
She stated his those affected were children from difficult backgrounds who were staying at a summer camp which he ran.
The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, Mrs Prior said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and request they to ingest treats "as fast as possible".
She informed the proceedings the man had engaged in this activity with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She explained Ruben had been able to explain this over a long period as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC stated further: "This year his stepchild had concerns about the situation, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."
Mrs Prior KC explained items including lubricant, ointment and syringes were located, and his stepson contacted the police about his worries.
She explained the man went on to engage in the "sweet game" with six children that night - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that stage," she stated further.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining law enforcement's management of the events.
The legal representative said the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the family member contacted the law enforcement once more.
She said the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five youngsters.
