Royal Air Force Typhoon FGR4s have joined forces with France's air force in a coordinated attack targeting an underground arms cache in Syria employed by the IS group, per a report from the UK's MoD.
The site, identified by reconnaissance, was assessed as housing weapons and explosive materials, the release indicated, and was located in mountains just above the historic site of Palmyra in Syria's central region.
"Our aircraft used Paveway IV guided bombs to hit a number of approach shafts providing entry to the facility... early reports indicate the objective was successfully hit," the MoD said.
There was no indication of any harm to civilians in the strike conducted Saturday night and all the aircraft returned safely, the ministry further stated.
The Typhoon fighters were assisted by a Voyager refuelling tanker.
IS - also known as Daesh - imposed jihadist rule over parts of Iraq and Syria before its territorial defeat in 2019.
"This strike underscores British leadership, and determination to stand shoulder to shoulder with our partners, to stamp out any re-emergence of IS and their violent and radical beliefs in the Middle East," UK Defence Secretary the minister stated.
British military aircraft have performed patrols over Syrian airspace to "prevent any attempted resurgence" of the group following its routing at the climactic battle in Baghuz in 2019, the MoD reported.
"I extend gratitude to the personnel of the UK armed forces participating in this strike for their expertise and their courage," Healey commented. "They were among a great many British personnel deployed over Christmas and New Year. This action, to take out militants who threaten our safety, shows how our armed forces are always on standby, all year round, protecting the UK at home and powerful internationally."
In December, the United States armed forces executed what it described as a "massive strike" targeting Daesh sites in the country, after an ambush killed two US servicemembers and a civilian linguist in Palmyra.
The U.N. reports Daesh still maintains between 5,000 and 7,000 combatants in both countries.
